Red Wine

When people think of wine, they automatically think of the deep red color that is so common with red wine. There are many different varieties of red wine available for you to drink. Each has its own unique flavor and aroma. Merlot, Pinot Noir, Gamay, Carbarnet Sauvignon, Tempranillo, and Zinfandel are only a few of the numerous red wine varieties that you might consider consuming.

How is it Made?

Red wine is generally made from red grapes. After the grapes are picked at just the perfect time of ripeness and they are cleaned, they are then put into a machine that gently squeezes out all of the juice. The entire mixture is then put into a stainless steel vat and allowed to ferment for around three to four weeks. During this process, it is yeast that turns the natural sugars in the grapes into alcohol. With red wine, the skins are allowed to stay in the mixture while it is fermenting. This helps to give red wine its beautiful, rich, and deep red color as well as helps with the tannin of the wine. When the fermentation process is complete, the juice is then drained away from all of the rest of the mixture as is placed into either a stainless steel vat with oak chips placed in the bottom, or into oak barrels. It is then given time to age for 9 months to 2 ½ years. It is then ready to bottle where the consumer usually allows the wine to age further before it is used.

How to Serve it

Red wine is best served at room temperature. Chilling it takes away from its flavor s and from its aroma. A red wine glass needs to be used since its design is intended to allow a red wine to be enjoyed to its fullest. This type of glass has a wider bowl that allows the wine's bouquet to waft up into your nostrils. The bowl shape also helps the wine to go to the part of your palette that will best appreciate the taste and texture of this fine beverage. Sutter Home, Kendall-Jackson, Kenwood Vineyards, and Robert Mondavi are all red wine brands that have a terrific reputation. Each one is worth a purchase to try and see if it satisfies your personal palette. After all, the best red wine out there is the one that you enjoy the most.
