Grape Types in Wine
Different types of wines taste best when using different types of grapes. In general, 4 different grape varieties are most commonly used in creating excellent wines. These four types include Tempranillo, Trebbiano or Ugni Blanc, Viognier, and Zinfandel. Tempranillo and Zinfandel grapes are usually used in making red wine, and Trebbiano and Viognier are usually used in making white wine. Some wines even use a blend of grape varieties to produce their superb flavor. The Tempranillo grape is why many Spanish red wines are excellent. The most versatile and popular grape to use in making red wine is the Zinfandel. It is used commonly in Southern Italian and Californian wines. This grape has the ability to produce red wines that are ready for consumption in only a few short years. The Trebbiano is used often in Italian white wines as well as in wines from France . This grape is even combined with other varieties to create some superb red wines. It is high in acidic content and low in alcohol. Viognier is known to be grown in France 's Rhone Valley . It creates a floral spicy wine that wineries in California and Chile are starting to attempt to recreate by growing this rare and difficult white grape in their locations.
